About
Coast to Coast Guides
At the
half-way-point on the Coast to Coast Walk,
Mr Wainwright grants you a twenty-four hour respite 'in heaven' ...
which is how the town of Richmond has often been described.
Writing
in his world famous James Herriot's Yorkshire, the country vet
recounts a story about a Richmond man who died and went to heaven.
St Peter, at the gate, asked him where he was from.
"From
Richmond," the man replied.
St. Peter
shook his head sadly. "Ah well," he murmured,
"I'm afraid
you aren't going to like it very much up here."
Indeed,
as a place to visit, Richmond takes some beating but as a place to live,
it's even better, and was recently voted one of the top ten places to
live in England.
Okay,
it's fair to say that in September of 1975, when Castle Hill Bookshop
opened for business, 'cyberspace' was only accessible from the pages
of a science fiction novel but, given time, two things happened. (1)
Our business grew because of the regular contact we had with customers
worldwide and (2) Eventually the Internet caught up with us and we decided
to launch our specialist book site. Well, why not?
Seriously,
for years we have been sending books to discerning readers all over
the world. Many people first learned about us through The
Sunday New York Times where our unusual adverts attracted much attention
.... Some were told about our excellent reputation by organisations
like The Sierra Club, who recommended us as the source
for Coast to Coast maps and guides ..... And recently many new customers
found us in a Smithsonian magazine article on the Coast To Coast
walk.
We
hope that we may now be able to serve you ..... If you are planning
to take on the Coast To Coast walk, we will be pleased to send you all
the relevant material you'll need to make the experience 'as enjoyable
as possible' ...... On the pages that follow, you can read about what's
available and what we recommend. We make it easy for you to place your
order, either online using Visa, MasterCard or Maestro via our secure
server, or feel free to give us a call on - the choice
is yours.
We keep
all the items listed on our site 'in stock' and are usually able to
fulfil your order the same day we receive it.
Our
delivery charges are shown on the Terms and Condtions page in the shopping
section of this site, but we believe it is important that you know about
these up front, rather than discovering them after you've spent time
deciding what you want to buy. So here they are:
